Active
holidays and Cycling holidays in particular are Luxembourg's main theme
for promoting tourism in 2011. Luxembourg is truly a nation of cyclists
and a most attractive tourist destination indeed for bikers.
To enable cyclists to easily identify accommodation consistent with their
expectations, the Ministry of Tourism
has implemented the new quality label "Bed and Bike" in collaboration
with the Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ
(LVI). The "bed + bike" label was developed by the German cycling club
ADFC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad Club). Its quality standards certify
that the accommodation welcomes cyclists. The label has already proven
itself with more than 5000 certified facilities in Germany and more than
240 facilities in Flanders, thus already enjoys a considerable reputation
in Europe.
In certified
establishments, visitors are sure to find the following minimum conditions,
developed to ensure a welcoming reception for cyclists and their equipment:
- Accommodation
for cycle tourists for one or more nights
- A
parking facility for bikes, free of charge and lockable at night
- Possibilities
to dry clothing and equipment
- Breakfast
high in vitamins and carbohydrates or the option of preparing your own
meals
- Provision
of maps and descriptions of local and regional cycling routes, bus and
train schedules and, where appropriate, information on boats and ferries
- Availability
of a repair kit containing the main tools needed for a bike
- Information,
opening hours and telephone number of the nearest bike repair shop for
major repairs.
Furthermore,
certified establishments must provide at least two other services from
the list below:
- Advice
on ecologically sound travel and bike transportation at the time of
reservation
- Shuttle
service for bike customers
- Rental
of quality bikes
- Cycling
day trips in the vicinity of the establishment and material with additional
information on the region
- Luggage
transfer from the last and/or to the next establishment
- Reservation
service for the next night in establishments that cater for cycle tourists
- Supply
of spare parts by arrangement with the nearest repair shop
- Information
on other establishments for cycle tourists in the region
- Lunch
pack to take along
- Guest
book in which to share experiences whilst cycling in the region.
No less than 44 places to stay; 23 hotels, 11 campsites, 5 hostels and
5 gîtes have wanted to carry this label from the moment of its introduction.
This great success at the very birth of the label emphasizes the cycling
tourism potential and the interest in cycling customers.
Following verification by the LVI, these 44 accommodations are now awarded
the quality label "bed + bike". To allow cyclists to easily find the "bed
+ bike" facilities in Luxembourg, the LVI has made a website at www.bedandbike.lu.

Note:
On "www.bedandbike.lu" you'll find a
